What are the Homeschooling laws in Indiana?
The compulsory school attendance law requires all children
to attend a school taught in the English language. Children must attend school
for the number of days the public school is in session in the district where
you live. Home schools are not bound by any requirements with regard to
curriculum or the content of educational programs. Children must start school
by their 7th birthday. Indiana Code IC 20-8.l-3-17
According to Indiana Code IC 20-8.1-3-23 to 24b Parents must
keep attendance records. The law also states that if you are contacted by the
State Superintendent, you must furnish your school’s enrollment of children by
grade level. Most families do not feel the need to report information until
asked.
