This concerning the Art classes at the Dillsboro library

I have added a total of 4 offers on classes for the Library.  I need an average of about 9 for each of the 5 workshops to make this happen.  With the added offers I hope it helps families out to boost the last 50% of sign-ups needed.  Let me know if you have any questions.  Please pass along the info.  I want larger families to feel like there is a way to do at least one of the classes.

Offer 1- Have two siblings share a space together for the cost of one.

Offer 2- For every 3 paid kids enrolled the 4th can be free. (The 4th child will not be counted as a paid participant to make the classes a go)

Offer 3- Gift a child or family member into the classes. Simply let me know as you fill out a registration. You share the child or family your gifting in and their email or phone (if possible). Email me the info to ripplemobilearts@gmail.com.  I can let them know they are gifted in and you can remain anonymous.

Offer 4- Parents and grandparents can join for 50% off! Please join to make the classes a go!
WE NEED AN AVERAGE OF 9 IN ALL 5 CLASSES WITH 9 FULLY PAID PARTICIPATS TO MAKE IT A GO.  IF ANYONE IS FREE THEY DO NOT COUNT TOWARDS THE 9.  HALF PRICED PARTICIPANTS COUNT AS HALF A REGISTRATION.  I OFFER SPECIALS TO HELP LARGER FAMILIES.  ITS BETTER TO MAKE CLASSES MORE ACCESSABLE TO FAMILES.

Homeschool Art Opportunity

Michelle B set up these lovely classes at the Dillsboro Library!  For more information follow this link.

Fused Glass Adventures for the homeschooler

Explore the many ways to use glass.  Frit, rods, stringers and shard of glass.  Cut, arrange, snip and decorate your very own glass fusion projects!  Learn basics in cutting, safety, design, process and more.  Gain an understanding of the chemical change into glass!
Every month will be a different project focus.

March 4th - design patterns
April 8th - fish in the ocean
May 6th - silly creatures

STEM and Art for the homeschooler

Create amazing projects and build on your STEM learning.  Design and problem solve a maze, learn about motors and how they work and discover the power of the wind.  Each class will focus on one or more aspects of STEM.  We will go over ways in which our project highlights a new area every class.  Leave with an amazing design and learn
the science behind it.

 March 4th - hex-bug mazes
April 8th - homemade motorized robot
May 6th - homemade kites

Innovative and Recycled Art for the homeschooler

Classes focused on giving a detailed and thoughtful approach to our creative spirit.  All students will learn how to combine found objects with creative process.  We will use a found object and combine it with art materials to create our finished work of art during each and every class.  Skills that can carry on to creating at home and beyond.  These projects work well with all ages.  No need to separate your kids!  Work together!

February 21st - recycled records
March 28th - recycled catapults
April 25th - Underwater seascape

Clay Adventures for the homeschooler

Explore the Geology of clay, process and the various methods to work with the medium!  Create a brand new project during every class you take!  Gaze and decorate from scratch.  Gain a well rounded understanding of working in the medium of clay.   Learn about the different firing processes and the use of a kiln.  Gain facts on various animals we will create each month.

March 4th - elephants
April 8th - turtles
May 6th - owls

Serious pottery wheel combo for the homeschooler

A series focused on the details of work with clay.  Every child will learn about materials, process and design in every class! Each class will involve a project at the table and an additional project to be added with the pottery wheel.  Both projects will be connected to complete the clay process.

March 4th - Pottery wheel vase and bowl combo
April 8th - Pottery wheel birdfeeders combo
May 6th - Pottery wheel mug and picture frame combo

For your perusal:

My name is Lindsay Blount and I am the new Education Programs Assistant at the Walden Woods Project, a non-profit organization in Lincoln, MA, devoted to preserving the land, literature and legacy of Henry David Thoreau to foster an ethic of environmental stewardship and social responsibility. I am writing to you about our Live Deliberately Essay Contest.
We would be very grateful for your help in sharing this year’s prompt with anyone you think might be interested in the Contest, for which we offer a cash prize of $250 to the winner in each age group. We received a record number of entries AGAIN in 2018 (a total of 2,390, with contestants from ALL 50 United States and 15 additional countries!) and hope that this year’s prompt also speaks to so many youth around the world.

This year’s prompt:

“What is the use of a house if you haven’t got a tolerable planet to put it on? If you cannot tolerate the planet it is on? Grade the ground first. If a man believes and expects great things of himself, it makes no odds where you put him, or what you show him…he will be surrounded by grandeur.”*
—H.D. Thoreau, Correspondence to H.G.O. Blake, 20 May 1860

With the quotation above as inspiration, respond to the following in 750 words or fewer:
What is a change you are passionate about seeing in the world? How can you “grade the ground first” to cultivate that change within yourself? How do the changes we make within ourselves make the world a better place?

*It was common practice in the 19th century to use masculine pronouns when describing the entirety of humankind.  We use Thoreau’s quotation as it was written with the understanding that he was referring to all people.  We encourage youth of all gender identities to participate in the Essay Contest.

We have not attached the Essay Contest flyer to this email, as we have found in the past that our emails with attachments often end up in spam folders. If you would like a flyer to distribute among your group, please let me know!

PLEASE NOTE that the deadline for submission is February 15, 2019. For those who are familiar with the contest, this is a month earlier than in the past.  Results will be announced by the end of April, 2019.

Sincerely,

Lindsay Blount

Young Voices Auditions

Hey, everyone! I would like to encourage you to consider having your child(ren) sing with Young Voices. Samuel, Elizabeth, and Philip have enjoyed being a part of the choirs during the school year (and also the  musicals in the summer). Mrs. Herrick (the director of the choirs) is a gem.  Follow this link to sign up for auditions.
